Your first session

If you are interested in trying out, we recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early.

If you have any questions or want to see what we do, have a look at our Instagram page.

Arriving at the dojo

To access the changing rooms, go up the stairs in front of reception.

To find us, turn left from reception and follow the corridor to South Hall. We usually train on court 4 or 5; the court numbers are on the wall.

Costs and trial sessions

Your first three sessions with us are free. After that, mat-fee plans are:

  • £60 — full year
  • £45 — academic year
  • £25 — half year
  • £12.50 — quarter year
  • £2 — individual session

You will also need a licence from our Association, The Jiu Jitsu Foundation, which costs £38/year. There is no upfront payment during the first two weeks.

As we are a University Society, Cardiff University students who wish to make us their home club need an AU membership, which costs £32.50/year. To purchase an Associate Membership, contact us through Instagram or email.

What should I wear?

For your first few sessions, wear comfortable clothing such as joggers and a T-shirt. We train barefoot, although you may wear socks if you prefer. Afterwards, you can purchase a gi, our training suit.

Remove or cover all jewellery, tie up long hair and bring a water bottle. Free refill stations are available.

Who can attend?

Most of our members are students, but you do not have to be. We also welcome students from other universities.

If you are under 18 and would like to attend, please contact us before coming along.

TJJF members who already have a home club may attend our sessions as long as they pay mat fees. No membership with us is needed.
